Our Mission

Wallhaven exists to give everyone access to a well-curated, high-resolution wallpaper library — without paywalls, watermarks, or intrusive advertising. The platform is maintained by a small team and sustained by a community of over 1.6 million registered users who upload images, add tags, flag low-quality content, and vote on their favourites.

Every decision on Wallhaven is made with one goal in mind: making it as easy as possible to find and download the perfect wallpaper for any screen, at any resolution, for free.

Background

Wallhaven was founded by a group of wallpaper enthusiasts who had previously been part of the community around Wallbase, an earlier platform that shut down. Rather than let that community and its shared library dissolve, the founding team built Wallhaven as its spiritual successor — keeping the same spirit of open, community-driven curation while improving on the technical foundations.

Over the years, Wallhaven has grown from a small community project into one of the largest dedicated wallpaper platforms on the internet, with over 1.3 million wallpapers collectively viewed nearly four billion times.

The Platform

Wallhaven is built on a modern web stack designed for fast image delivery and precise searchability. The search engine supports filtering by resolution, aspect ratio, dominant color, category, tag, and purity level, allowing users to find exactly what they need from a library of over a million images.

The platform also provides a public REST API (v1) that allows developers to integrate Wallhaven's search and collection features into their own applications and tools.
